European Autism Information System (EAIS) project
The European response for people living with ASD, their families and carers is a long way behind many countries in the world. Today, it is estimated that one in every 110 children is diagnosed with autism, making it more common than childhood cancer, juvenile diabetes and paediatric AIDS combined. It is a lifelong condition that bears significantly high societal costs. For these reasons alone it should command priority in public health policy.
The first effort to address this situation at European level started in 2005 with the European Autism Information System (EAIS) project. The vision document of the European Autism Alliance, now known as the European Autism Public Health Alliance (eapha) was presented in the European parliament in 2007 as part of this project.
